How it works
The FERS annuity is 1% of your High-3 salary for each year of service, or 1.1% if you retire at 62 or later with at least 20 years. Unused sick leave adds service time.
You can retire at your minimum retirement age (55 to 57, by birth year) with 30 years, at 60 with 20, or at 62 with 5. At the MRA with 10 to 29 years, the annuity is cut 5% for each year you are under 62 unless you postpone it.

Questions
Is the FERS annuity adjusted for inflation?
Cost-of-living adjustments start at 62, except for disability and special-category retirees. They are smaller than Social Security's when inflation is above 2%.
How much does the survivor benefit cost?
A full survivor benefit (50% of your annuity) cuts your annuity by 10%; a partial one (25%) cuts it by 5%.
