How it works
After you separate, you can take installments, partial or full withdrawals, or buy an annuity. Installments can be monthly, quarterly or yearly, and you can change the amount at any time.
Withdrawals are penalty-free if you separate in or after the year you turn 55, or 50 for law enforcement, firefighters and air traffic controllers. Otherwise the 10% applies until 59½.

Questions
How is the Roth TSP handled?
Each withdrawal comes proportionally from your traditional and Roth balances. Qualified Roth earnings are tax-free after five years and age 59½.
Do installments satisfy RMDs?
Yes. The TSP pays your RMD automatically if installments fall short.
