How it works
The 2026 limit is $7,500, plus $1,100 if you're 50 or older, but never more than your earned income. Above a modified AGI of $153,000 single or $242,000 joint, the limit phases out, reaching zero at $168,000 and $252,000.
In the phase-out, the limit shrinks in proportion to how far into the range you are, is rounded up to the next $10, and is at least $200 if you're still below the top of the range.
2026 figures: IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-32 (2026 inflation adjustments); IRS Notice 2025-67 (2026 retirement plan limits); CMS 2026 Medicare Parts A & B premiums and deductibles.
